Rate: competitive, dependent on experience and location
Llama Digital is currently looking for an experienced Ruby on Rails developer to work on a freelance basis.
Ideally we would like to recruit someone that can work in our studio with us in Sheffield, UK, but we recognise that there may be some excellent candidates outside of the UK who may also be suitable for the role. For this role to work the candidate must:
- speak excellent English
- work in a time zone close to GMT (up to +/- 4 hours)
- be experienced at using git
- familiar with Agile processes
You will be working on our own Situate platform – which allows venues to create and manage their own location-aware apps (using iBeacons and GPS). You will also be working on other Ruby on Rails client projects.
You will need to work closely with the other team members, using Slack and Sqwiggle for communication.
You will be joining a team at an exciting time. We are winners in the Smart Lab programme (a partnership between Sheffield City Council, both Sheffield universities, and Ferrovial). Our solution is to use Situate to help residents and visitors to discover and engage with cultural venues and events. This includes museums, galleries, music events and more.
We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience:
- Ruby on Rails (4+ years’ experience)
- MySQL
- PostgreSQL
- HTML/CSS
- Javascript
- git
- Test Driven Development (TDD)
- Degree in Computer Science or related discipline preferred
Experience of the following technologies would be beneficial but not essential:
- Modern Javascript (ES2015)
- iOS and Android development
- React JS, node.js, grunt
- Experience of maintaining and scaling JSON API services
- PHP
- Capistrano, Ansible
- Amazon AWS (EC2 / ELB / S3 / RDS)
- iBeacons
- WordPress
You will be part of a supportive and skilled team that will be keen to share knowledge with you and learn from the skills that you will bring. We foster an environment where knowledge is shared between people, and we encourage the introduction of new technologies.
